Maia: Some Origins Photos
A brief look at where Maia came from.
The is a pre-reprise of the "two sisters" photo from the
Canine Agility page. Let's assume so
anyway, that this is Maia on the left and Suka at right. Holding them
is Tracyann, a Fairbanks musher and one of my personal heros.
The big difference in Maia's physique? Not so gangly. More
spherical.
I imagine being the runt my lil' dog spent a lot of her time in here
getting clocked out of the way by her sibs.
Below is Charcoal, whom Carrie reminds me belonged at one point
to Martin Buser, who is renowned for breading hounds into his sled dog
lines. In fact we think Charcoal is a direct descendent of Buser's lead
dog Dave. But we should probably verify this before we go around saying
boastful things like "Maia's grandfather won the Iditarod." Anyway you
can tell in this photo that Charcoal has been busy with her litter, not
pulling any sleds.
Tracyann and her husband took their pack on a tour of the contiguous US
during the sumer of 2003. It was a sort of 'goodwill mushing tour'. See
what happens when you keep feeding them? See how big they get? And
always those big wolf tongues lolling out... hanging around with sled
dogs you start to feel like you're about to get torn apart and
devoured. Which is obviously what is worrying TA in this photo.
