Introduction

Watersheds or catchment basins are topographically defined basins where water tends to collect, flow, and converge. The water is encouraged to move by gravity and discouraged by resistance from the substrate: soil, rocks, vegetation and so on. We care about watersheds from a variety of perspectives, everything from fractal geometry to resource management. First and foremost though we discover them (if we're fortunate) when we're young and impressionable.

This page and its side-branch pages describe working with watersheds and kids, a project started in Fall 2007.

See also this page in the SEAMONSTER wiki. It is about what makes hydrology such a complicated/puzzling/interesting subject.

Meanwhile this is a Main Sequence page that has yet to justify itself!

Who knows??? I certainly have a couple years of back-fill to take care of first...

Working Notes

Motes

  • Prototype field mote programs ok (holds DSM 9/1/7)
  • Same: Mote 3 (still has battery pack)
  • Same: Mote 10 (")

Field mote failure modes (10 motes so far)

  • Programs but no slow start
  • Asks to install driver
  • motelist: Ser number but no portname
  • motelist: No devices found (somtimes cylon eye)

Latter is most common problem.

DE-9 connector (wkpedia: DB-9 is a misnomer as it would be a 25 pin connector with a 16 pins missing!)

  • 1 DCD Carrier Detect
  • 2 RxD Receive
  • 3 TxD Transmit
  • 4 DTR Data Terminal Ready
  • 5 G Common Ground
  • 6 DSR Data Set Ready
  • 7 RTS Request To Send
  • 8 CTS Clear To Send
  • 9 RI Ring Indicator
